What Are Dried Pomegranate Flowers?
Pomegranate flowers come from the pomegranate tree (Punica granatum), a small, long-lived tree native to the region from Iran to northern India and cultivated around the Mediterranean since ancient times. In late spring and summer it carries striking, bright red-orange flowers with crinkled, papery petals and a thick, waxy, bell-shaped base that later develops into the fruit.
The flowers are picked and dried whole. Dried pomegranate flowers keep a deep red to rusty orange color and have a light, slightly fruity and astringent taste.
Pomegranate flowers appear in the traditional herbal practices of the Middle East, South Asia and China, where they are known as gulnar or anar flowers, and they have long been brewed into a simple flower tea. The pomegranate itself is one of the oldest symbols of abundance and fertility in art and mythology.
Today dried pomegranate flowers are used for flower tea and herbal tea blends, for natural dyeing, where they give warm yellow and orange tones, and as a striking material in potpourri, botanical crafts and decorations.
Our dried pomegranate flowers contain only Punica granatum flowers with nothing added. They are sold by weight, from small packs to bulk.
